Abstract

Staphylococcus epidermidis is a bacterium that induce inflammation in acne. Plants that have been widely studied as antibacterial are Impatiens balsamina leaves. Emulgel is a combination of emulsion and gel preparations. The oil phase in the gel preparation has the advantage of the drug can be attached longer and has a good spreading power. The purpose of this study was to investigate the combination of HPMC (Hydroxypropyl metylcellulose) and Carbopol which can provide a good antibacterial effect and know the evaluation of emulgel preparations that are both physically and chemically. The extraction Impatiens balsamina leaves using maceration method with 96% ethanol. The extracts obtained were prepared with emulgel dosage formulations, Emulgel preparations were tested for physical quality, emulgel stability, and anti-irritation test on rabbit's eye and rabbit's back. The antibacterial activity test of the emulsule preparation was performed in vitro by looking at the inhibit zone. The data obtained were processed with Statistical Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Formulas III and IV have a stability test and do not irritate the rabbit's skin by noticing the absence of erythmic arising in the backs of rabbits and rabbit eyes. The result of activity test of emulgel leaf extract of girlfriend of water to Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228 indicates that all formulations have drag zone diameter. The diameter of the inhibitory zone approaching the positive control is the formula VI that is 17.51 ± 1.52 mm. Result of T test analysis show value (0,973> 0,05) hence effectiveness of emulgel dosage show significant difference. Keywords: Staphylococcus epidermidis, Emulgel, Impatiens balsamina leave
