Abstract

Resistant Staphylococcus aureus is an S. aureus bacterium experiencing resistance towards antibiotic beta lactam group. Wuluh star fruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) is used as a traditional medicine. Wuluh star fruit leaves contains flavonoid, saponin and tanin. This study aims todetermine the antibacterial activity of the fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water from wuluh star fruit leaves etanolic extract against Resistant S. aureus. Wuluh star fruit leaves powder was extracted by maserasi method by etanolic 70%, and then it was fractionated by solvent n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water which have different polarity. Antibacterial activity test was performed using diffusion and dilution methods. The concentration used in the diffusion method was 60%, 50%, 40%, 30%, 20%, and 10% aimed to determine the most active fraction. The most active fraction is continued dilution test to determine the MBC with concentration 60%, 30%, 7,5%, 3,75%, 1,88%, 0,94% and 0,47%. Analysis contents of the compounds in the ethyl acetate fraction use TLC showed flavonoid, saponin and tanin. The results shows that all the fractions and extracts has antibacterial activity. Ethyl acetate fraction is most active fraction with 11 mm concentration of 60%. Dilution test results ethyl acetate fraction showed antibacterial activity with MBC 15%.
