Abstract

Robusta coffee plant (Coffea canephora Pierre ex A.Froehner) is one of the medicinal plants which has been proven to have antioxidant activity. The direct use of Robusta coffee leaf extract is considered less practical, so it is made in the form of cream preparations. This study aims to determine or test the antioxidant activity of Robusta coffee extract (Coffea canephora Pierre ex A.Froehner) with DPPH method, to find out how much antioxidant activity of extracts and cream preparations and to find out Robusta coffee leaf extarct can be made in the form of cream that has good physical quality. The preparation of Robusta coffee leaf extract cream is made in different concentration variation, namely formula I contains Robusta coffee leaf extract with a concentration of 1%, formula II contains Robusta coffee leaf extract with a concentration of 1,5%, formula III contains Robusta coffee leaf extract with a concentration of 2%, formula IV contains Robusta coffee leaf extract with a concentration of 2,5%, formula V contains Robusta coffee leaf extract with a concentration of 3%, then physical quality is tested where all formulae have physical quality and stability the good one. Antioxidant analysis was performed using the DPPH method which then calculated the IC50 value. The data obtianed were then analyzed with one way ANOVA. The results showed that Robusta coffee leaf extract cream has antioxidant activity. The IC50 value of formula 1 is 132,365 ppm, formula 2 is 100,4 ppm, formula 3 is 89,762 ppm, formula 4 is 80,019, and formula 5 is 72,565 ppm.
