Abstract

Day crem is a cosmetics product that contains sunscreen, which should have efficacy in accordance with specified quality requirements. For that, it is necessary to determine the SPF (Sun Protection Factor) value as a parameter of the efficacy of the sunscreen. The purpose of this study was to determine the suitability of the SPF value of day creams containing sunscreen sold in cosmetics shops in Kepatihan Wetan, Surakarta, Central Java. Samples taken as many as 5 brands with the code H;I;J;K;L were tested invitro using the UV-Vis Spectrophotometry method with wavelengths of 290 – 320 nm with intervals 5 nm. Measured the absorbance, then the results are calculated using the Mansur equation. Based on in-vitro test the value of SPF produced in sample H is 16,11 (SPF label is 15), in sample I is 19,99 (SPF label is 19), in sample J is 30,80 (SPF label is 30), in sample K is 11,73 (SPF label is 19), and in the sample L is 13,06 (SPF label is 15) means there is a difference between the value tested in-vitro using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry.
