Abstract

Hands are a source of disease because of direct contact with objects around us and infection. The infection is caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. Prevention of the spread of bacteria by using hand sanitizers. Beluntas leaves contain alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids and essential oils. Beluntas leaf is an active ingredient added to alcohol-free hand sanitizer preparations. Based on previous research, beluntas leaf extract provides the greatest challenge to Staphylococcus aureus at a 60% concentration of 1,593 mm. Antibacterial hand cleansing gel of beluntas leaf extract which is effective as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus in vitro. Beluntas leaves were isolated with 80% ethanol. Beluntas leaf ethanol extract is made in a hand sanitizing gel formula with concentrations of 0%, 12%, 24%, and 36%. The physical quality testing of hand sanitizing gel includes organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, adhesion, dispersion, and supported tests. The inhibitory test method uses the disk diffusion method with Staphylococcus aureus. The test results of the antibacterial activity of the hand sanitizer gel formula by the disk diffusion method showed inhibition in the presence of clear areas around the disc. The results showed that the formulation of beluntas leaf extract hand sanitizing gel gave inhibitory diameter between 9.5 - 14.67 mm against Staphylococcus aureus The largest inhibitory diameter with an average of 14.67 mm in formula 4 with extracts of beluntas leaf extract 36% Keywords: gel hand sanitizer, beluntas leaf, Staphylococcus aureus, disc diffusion
