Abstract

Plants can be useful as a drug and one of them is sembukan ( Paederia scandes L). In sembukan herb contains flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and saponins as an antibacterial. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity both on the concentration of herbal extracts to inhibit bacterial growth sembukan Escherichia coli ATCC 25922. The experiments were conducted include sample preparation, manufacture suspension culture, media preparation, bacterial identification and testing of diffusion and dilution. Observations were based on the presence or absence of activity barriers in the form of inhibition zone (mm) to determine the MIC and MBC. The result showed that sembukan herbal extracts contain alkaloids, saponins, tannins and flavonoids. Dilution test of herbal extract was obtained sembukan MIC 25% and MBC 25%. Diffusion test inhibitory zone at a concentration of 80% at 19 mm, 40% at 15 mm, and 20% at 10 mm. This research can be concluded that the sembukan herbal have aktibakteri activity against bacterial growth Escherichia coli ATCC 25922.
