Abstract

Essential oils of kaffir lime leaves (Citrus hystrix D.C) in their topical dosage forms can be used to improve comfort when applied, the use of kaffir lime essential oil directly on the skin is less comfortable because the concentrated nature of essential oils can cause irritation and allergic skin. One preparation that is suitable for oil active ingredients is emulgel preparation. This study used a variation of carbopol concentration as a gelling agent used in the manufacture of emulsions to influence the physical properties of volatile oil emulgel of good kaffir lime leaves. Essential oils of kaffir lime leaves emulgel was made 3 formulas with a concentration of 0.8%, 1.2%, 1.6% carbopol. Tests carried out for 4 weeks on the physical quality of the emulgel tested included organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, dispersion, centrifugation and adhesion. Data were analyzed using the SPSS Statistics version 18.0 program with one way ANOVA method and Independent Ttest. The results showed that the higher the carbopol concentration, the greater the viscosity and adhesion, so the smaller the spread of power. Carbopol concentration produced good emulgel preparations on the physical properties of kaffir lime leaves essential oil emulsions which include organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, centrifugation and significantly different effects on viscosity, adhesion, and dispersion.
