Abstract

The ethanol extract of onion black has antibacterial activity against bacteria Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 AND Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 . The ethanol extract of onion black contains flavonoids that can inhibit the growth of bacteria through persecution DNA gyrase. The purpose of this study was to detemine the antibacterial activity of ethanol ekstact of black garlic onion against bacteria Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The experiment was conducted with a paper disc diffusion method. bacterium Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 tested previously identified by macroscopic and microscopic. Samples were prepared ethanol extract concentration series of 60, 70, and 80%. The next stage of testing the antibacterial activity and analyzed using SPSS. Observations of antibacterial activity can be seen by the size of the inhibition zone (mm). The results showed that ethanol extracts of black garlic has antibacterial activity in bacteria Escherichia coli ATCC 25 922 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The results indicate that the ethanol extract of black garlic is most effective in inhibiting the growth of bacteria Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 in series konsentarasi 80% with an average diameter of inhibition zone of 16,33mm.
