Abstract

Fennel plants areknows as vegetables,especially for people around Mount Merbabu, and are believed to be used as breastfeeding (lactagogum) in nursing mothers. This study aims to determine the lactagogum activity and the effective dose of ethanol extract of fennel leaves and stems to increase the body weight of rats. This research was conducted experimentally using the parallel group post test only design method. The samples used were 30 breastfeeding mice which were divided into 6 treatment groups, group I as normal controls; group II as a negative control (CMC Na 0.5%); group III as positive control (Asifit dose 67.86 mg / kg bw); groups IV, V and VI as a test group of ethanol extract of fennel leaves and stems at a dose of 315 mg / kg bw, 630 mg / kg bw, 945 mg / kg bw. The treatment was carried out for 14 days where every day the weight of routine chicks was carried out before and after the suckling: initial weighing at 08.30 (W1), after being separated from the mother for 4 hours at 12:30 (W2), and after being combined with the mother at 13.30 (W3), which is then calculated by calculating the average daily weight increase in the formula [(W3-W2) + (W2-W1) / 4]. Furthermore, the data obtained were tested using One Way Anova and continued with the Tukey Post Hoc Test. The results showed that the administration of ethanolic extract of fennel leaves and stems had an effect on the increase in the west body of rats' puppies. The dose of 630 mg / kg bw given daily for 14 days can significantly increase the puppy weight of mice comparable to positive control (Asifit dose 67.86 mg / kg bw), compared to the controls and other doses used.
