Abstract

Corn is one of the medicinal plants which has proved to have antioxidant activity. The direct use of corn silk extract it less practical, thus created in the cream dosage form. The addition of emulsifiers namely stearic acid and triethanolamine are used as a base cream. This study aims to determine the concentration of emulsifier needed to keep the cream may have a physical quality and sufficient stability as well as to determine the antioxidant activity of the extract and cream. Corn silk is extracted by maceration method using ethanol 80% to obtain a thick extract. Cream made in five formulas of various concentrations of emulsifier. The resulting cream was tested physique quality include viscosity, dispersive power, adhesiveness, pH, stability test methodsfreeze and thaw and antioxidant activity. To determine the effect of the concentration of emulsifier in the cream preparation using 17.0 SPPSS program. The results showed that increasing the concentration of emulsifier affecting an increasing viscosity, increased adhesiveness and decreasing the scatter and the pH decreases. The test results of antioxidant activity of vitamin E, extracts, formula 1, 2,3,4 (negative control), and 5 (positive control), respectively, are 10.820; 52.460; 135.823; 143.957; 755.355; 123.818 ppm.
