Abstract

Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.) is one of the raw materials for traditional medicine plants in Indonesia. In a previous study the mangosteen peel ethanol extract was able to provide a hypoglycemic effect. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of mangosteen peel ethanol extract on blood glucose reduction and lymphocyte, monocyte and granulocyte levels This study used 12 test groups, which consisted of extract treatment groups: normal, negative, positive (glibenclamide) control, mangosteen peel extract 25 mg / 200 gram BB rats, 50 mg / 200 gram BB rats, 100 mg / 200 gram BB rats , and isolate treatment groups: normal, negative, positive (glibenclamide) control, α-mangostin dose 0.032 mg / 200 gram body weight rat, 0.064 mg / 200 gram body weight rat, 0.13 mg / 200 gram body weight rat. Rat. Treatment mice were hyperglycemic conditioned by STZ-Na induced. Mangosteen peel extract and α-mangostin are administered orally and are seen as having an effect on decreasing blood glucose levels and decreasing levels of lympho- phytes, monocytes and granulocytes on the 28th day. The results showed the effect of ethanol extract of mangosteen rind and α-mangostin was able to influence the decrease in blood glucose levels and decreased levels of lymphocytes, monosotes and granulocytes. The results showed a significantly different treatment control group to a negative control (p> 0.05) and a α-mangostindosis group of 0.13 mg / 200 g of BW Rat obtained the best results that approached positive control (p <0.05) Keywords : Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.), Hyperglycemia, Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Granulocytes
