Abstract

Bacterial infection is a serious health problem. One of them is Nosocomial infection which is usually caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Prolonged use of antibiotics can cause resistance to bacteria. Another alternative is to use drug treatments. Potential plants as alternative traditional medicines include mahagonay and noni plants. Ethanol extract of mahagonay and noni leaves contain compounds that function as antibacterial including alkaloids, tannins, saponins, flavonoids, triterpenoids and polyphenols. Extraction method in this practice uses percolation. Mahagonay and noni leaves were extracted with 96% ethanol solvent. 75% extract dilution was made using a 2% DMSO solution. Antibacterial activity test on Pseudomonas aeruginosa laboratory culure and patient pus samples using diffusion wells method. Result obtained were analized by Anova test (One Way an Two Way Anova). Result showed that mahagonay leafe, noni leaf and a combination of both (1:1, 1:2, 2:1) at a concentration of 75% had antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The best extract to inhibit bacterial growth is a single extract of mahagonay leaves. Combination of mahagonay leaf and noni leaf extract has no synergistic effect. Pseudomonas aeruginosa laboratorium culture is more sensitive than Pseudomonas aeruginosa samples of patient pus.
