Abstract

Pronojiwo (Kopsia fruticosa (Ker.) D.C.) , long pepper (Piper retrofractum Vahl.) fruits, and red ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe. var. rubrum) are fractions of the diversity of plant in Indonesia. The three plants are believed to have active substances that can overcome fatigue. The study was aimed to find out the tonic effect in each syrup preparation of the three materials. The syrup preparations were physically tested including viscosity, easy to pour or not, the intensity of the color, pH, specific gravity, organoleptic, stability, and taste perception test. The experiment used Natatory Exhaustion method by using 30 male white mice which divided in 6 groups, i.e. negative control group (syrup whitout active substance); positive control (caffein); syrup of combined pronojiwo seeds and long pepper fruits; syrup of combined pronojiwo seeds and red ginger rhizomes; syrup of combined long pepper fruits and red ginger rhizomes; and syrup of combined pronojiwo seeds, long pepper fruits and red ginger rhizomes, with each delivery of 0.52ml/20g BW. The mice put into small pool with wavy water. The mice would show fatigue by letting their heads under the water for 7 seconds. Then rested and given each of syrup formula, then let to swim back, and the exhaustion time was recorded. The study concluded that syrup of pronojiwo seeds, long pepper fruit s, red ginger rhizomes and the combination could increase the mice endurance. Formula with the highest addition of endurance was syrup of combined pronojiwo seeds, long pepper fruits, red ginger rhizomes with 19,2 minutes addition of endurance.
