Abstract

Salbutamol sulphate is one drug that is widely used for the treatment of bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Salbutamol sulphate has several characteristics that support for mucoadhesive preparations made. One of them is by way of buccal patches. To support the preparation of buccal patches, which serves as an excipient needed mucoadhesive polymers. The polymers used in this study is Carbopol and HPMC. Salbutamol Sulphate buccal patch is made with a combination of Carbopol and HPMC polymers with various concentrations of the formula I ratio (5:5), the formula II (3:7), the formula III (7:3), the formula IV (6:4), the formula V (4:6), the formula VI (control), and then tested weight uniformity, content uniformity, swelling index, folding endurance, surface pH and dissolution profiles. These results indicate that the mechanism of release of Salbutamol Sulphate influenced by diffusion mechanism. The greater the concentration of Carbopol matrix swelling index value and the greater the release of the drug from the patch more and more. Dissolution profiles of the test showed that the formula III gives the best results compared to other formulas. Keywords: Salbutamol Sulphate, Carbopol, HPMC K10M, Buccal mucoadhesive patch.
