Abstract

Pomegranate leaf (Punica granatum L.) has long been known by Indonesian people as an ingredient of traditional medicine. This study aims to determine the antifungal activity of methanol leaf extract of pomegranate against Candida albicans. Process extraction used in this research is a method of Soxhlet with methanol solvent fractionation followed by solvent n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water. Test antifungal activity against Candida albicans performed diffusion and dilution. Diffusion method with a concentration of 75%, 50%, 25%, and a positive control ketokonazole. Dilution method using serial dilutions of 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.13%, 1.57%, 0.79%, 0.40%, and 0.20%. Analysis of data obtained from the testing of antifungal activity with the diffusion method was tested statistically using One Way ANOVA. One Way ANOVA test results showed a significant difference in the concentrations of antifungal activity in inhibiting Candida albicans. The results of this study show that the fraction of n-hexane has the best antifungal activity than the ethyl acetate fraction, water fraction, and leaf methanol extract of white pomegranate. The best activity in n-hexane fraction of the methanol extract of white pomegranate leaves at concentrations of 75%, 50%, 25% with successive inhibition zone 44.75 mm, 41.5 mm, 29.25 mm diffusion method. Kill Concentration Minimum fraction of n-hexane extract of white pomegranate leaf metanon to kill Candida albicans is a concentration of 1.57% dilution method.
