Abstract

Anting-anting Herb (Acalypha indica L.) is a annual herb which is known to have many benefits, especially for diabete mellitus. This study aimed to determine the effect of ethanolic extract of anting-anting herb in decrease is blood glucose levels and the GLUT-2 expression in liver and pancreas of STZ-NA induced rat. The study was conducted using completely randomized one direction. The animals were divided into 5 groups. Group 1: normal control, group 2: negative control (Na CMC 1%), group 3: positive control (glibenclamide 0.5 mg/kg BW), group 4: control of ethanolic extract of anting-anting herb 100 mg/kg BW, group 5: control of ethanolic extract of anting-anting herb 200 mg/kg BW. The diabetic animals was induced (group 2 and 5) by diabetonic compound of STZ-NA for 5 days intraperitoneally and therapy administration ethanolic extract of antinganting herb for 14 days then tested on DM rat group using 3 parameters, i.e.: Blood glucose level, optimum dose in decrease blood glucose level and GLUT-2 expression in pancreatic beta cells and rat liver. The results showed that the ethanolic extract of anting-anting herb at doses of 100 mg and 200 mg/kg BW was able to decrease the blood glucose levels of STZ-NA-induced rat with percentage of blood glucose levels at 19 th days 27.32±7.09 and 53.96±1.30 nespectinely. Ethanolic extract of anting-anting herb 200 mg/kg BW exhibited comparable capability to this of positive Control (glibenclamid 0,5 mg/kgBB) by 56.41 ± 2.68 in decrease blood glucose levels of STZ-NA-induced rat. the increase of density of GLUT-2 in pancreatic beta cells and density decrease of GLUT-2 in hepatocyte cells was in extract dose of 200 mg/kg BW.
