Abstract

Fast disintegrating tablet (FDT) is a tablet which when placed on the tongue instantly disintegrate and release the drug with the help of saliva. FDT disintegrate within 30-40 seconds with the disintegration test. Piroxicam is non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) oksikam derivate. The derivate is categorized as phenolic acid which have anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities with group of 4-Hydroxy-l,2-berizothiazine caboxamide. The average daily dose for piroksikam IE 20 mg. This study was aimed to determine the effect of Primellose combination as superdisintegrant and effervescent ingredient to physical properties at fast disintegrating tablet of piroxicam. In this study made into three FDT formulas with combination of Primellose as superdisintegrant and citric acid-sodium bicarbonate as effervescent ingredient in many different concentrations with direct clamp method. Testing conducted on physical properties of granule such as granule flow time and repose angle. Other test of FDT tablet physical properties such as weight uniformity, hardness, friability, disintegration time by in vitro, disintegration time by in vivo, wetting time and test of taste response. The results showed that the absence of influence of tablet physical quality on primellose use as superdisintegrant and citric acid-sodium bicarbonate as effervescent ingredient. The lowest concentration on Primellose to physical properties of tablet could increase hardness and decrease friability less than 1%. In the highest Primellose formula and the lowest effervescent ingredient may decrease disintegration time by in vitro and in vitro.
