Abstract

Flax seed contains about 36-40% oil which can be used as food or industrial purposes. The purpose of this study was to determine whether flaxseed oil can be made the microemulsion, the proportion of surfactant and cosurfactant and concentration of linseed oil used to produce the best microemulsion. The microemulsion flaxseed oil (Linseed Oil) using surfactant plantacare® and cosurfactant PEG 400 were previously done optimization cosurfactant using 5 different cosurfactant ie PEG 400, sorbitol, glycerin, ethanol propilenglikol and 96% with each concentration of 15%, then the optimization comparison surfactants and cosurfactant with a ratio of 1: 1, 2: 1 and 3: 1, where each concentration of 20%, 25%, 30% and 35%. Formula that produces a microemulsion is clear and the size of the smallest particles, then do the optimization concentration of linseed oil at a concentration of 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%, 6%, 7%, 8%, 9% and 10% , Formula that produces a clear microemulsion and the size of the smallest particles, which include further testing organoleptic test, the viscosity, centrifugation, density, and stability. The results showed Linseed Oil can be made a microemulsion using surfactant Plantacare® and cosurfactant PEG 400 with ratio 3: 1 at a concentration of 35% to produce a clear microemulsion with a particle size of 53.1 nm, PI 0.243, and zeta potential -33.12 mV. Linseed oil concentration of 4% (F4) to produce a clear microemulsion with a particle size of 101.0 nm, PI 0.240, and zeta potential -33.25 mV.
