Abstract

Methyl salicylate used for analgesic, carminative, diuretic, to treat rheumatic, prevent hair loss, antiseptic, and anthelmintic. Methyl salicylate miscible with oil and can be made into cream preparation. The addition of oil phase causes the cream to liquid, in order the preparation does not melt so added stearic acid and TEA (triethanolamin). The study was aimed to make cream with variation of stearic acid and TEA (triethanolamin) as thickener and to determine the test of physical quality and stability test. Production of methyl salicylate cream using cream production method with the type of M / A. Methyl salicylate was made with variation concentration basis of stearic acid and triethanolamin, then each formula tested organoleptic, viscosity, dispersive, adhesion, and pH. Methyl salicylate cream observed for 2 weeks. Furthermore, the data were analyzed statistically by Anova one way and continued SNK test using significance level of 95%. The results showed that methyl salicylate could be made cream by using base of stearic acid and triethanolamin. Methyl salicylate cream with variation base of stearic acid and triethanilamin meet the test of physical quality and stability test in storage period for 2 weeks.
