Abstract

Ketepeng china (Cassia alata L) flower have chemical contents of saponin, flavonoid and tannin are thought to have antibacterial activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the activity of ethanolic extract, n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water fractions from ketepeng china flower (Cassia alata L) as antibacterial of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Ketepeng china flower extracted by soxhletation using 70% ethanol then fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water solvents. Ethanolic extract, nhexane, ethyl acetate and water fractions were tested the antibacterial activity using diffusion method, with concentration of 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%. The results showed that the n-heksan fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, and water fraction ketepeng china flower has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 at a certain concentration. Inhibitory average diameter n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction with the concentration 100% at Staphylococcus aureus respectively, 12,667 mm, 14,667 mm, 19 mm. Inhibitory average diameter with the concentration 100% at Pseudomonas aeruginosa respectively 13,333 mm, 14,667 mm, 17,333 mm. The most active fraction against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the water fraction.
