Abstract

Pumpkin is a plant widely used the Indonesian community. Previous research states that a dose of 40 mg/200 g BW rat pumkin seed ethanol extract can lower blood glucose level in diabetic rats. Pumpkin seed has a content of flavonoids, saponins, steroids and tannins that have activity as an antidiabetic. This research aims to know the pumpkin seed extract fractionated with n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water is used as antidiabetic on white male rats induced by alloxan. Extraction was done by maceration method using ethanol 96% followed fractionation with n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water. Further tested on male rats were made diabetic by alloxan induction and grouped into 6 groups: negative control group (CMC 0.5%), the positive control group (0.09 mg dose glibenclamide), the pumkin seed ethanol extract group (50 mg / 200 g BW rat), nhexane fraction group (dose of 38.610 mg / 200 g BW rat), ethyl acetate fraction group (a dose of 2.62 mg / 200 g BW rat) and water fraction group (dose of 8.73 mg / 200 g BW rat ). The data obtained were analyzed by One Way Anova (p <0.05) continued test of Tukey post hoc test. The results showed that the fraction of n-hexane with 38.610 mg / 200 g BW rat and ethyl acetate fraction with 2.62 mg / 200 g BW rat dose comparable to the positive control (glibenclamide) in lower blood glucose levels.
