Abstract

Rational use of antibiotics is the provision of drugs according to indications, dosage, interval, route, duration of administration of a drug, secure, and affordable price by the patient. The use of antibiotics can lead to bacterial resistance, increased morbidity and mortality as well as medical costs, ultimately lowering the quality of health services. This study aimed to evaluate the use of antibiotics in the Hospital X ICU in Surakarta period from July to December 2015 by using Gyssens. This type of research is non experimental descriptive. The data collected retrospectively through medical records of patients who received antibiotics ICU, includes profiles of patients and prescribing patterns. Evaluation is done by using Gyssens path. The results of 40 cases, the use of antibiotics empirically 88.9%, 11.1% prophylaxis. The most widely used antibiotic is ceftriaxone (51.85%), following by levofloxacin (14.8%), and ceftazidime (11.1%). The accuracy of the use of antibiotics by Gyssens, category 0 (right / rational) 16.1%. Category IIIa (long use) 8.1%, IIIb (short use) 11.3%, IVa (there are other antibiotics that are more effective) 38.7%, V (no indication) of 25.8%. Keywords: Antibiotics, ICU, Gyssens
