Abstract

Hypertension is a major cause death of 2.4 billion total world population. WHO note there is 50%-70% of patients do not compliance to prescribed antihypertension drugs. The patient incompliance increases the risk of complications and increase severity of disease. One effort to improve patient compliance to therapy is conduct patient counseling. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of patient compliance before counseling and effect of counseling to therapy compliance of hypertension patients in Puskesmas Kedawung II Sragen. This study was a quasi-experimental with The One Group Pretest-Posttest design method using 35 sampels of hypertension patient. Data were collected prospectively and analyzed by descriptive method. Compliance measurement was done using MMAS questionnaire. The results showed 86% of patients had low compliance before have given counseling. Based on the results of Paired t-test obtained P-value = 0,000 (P<0,05) shows there was significant difference between compliance before and after counseling. The conclusion of the study that counseling affect to hypertension patient compliance. Keywords: hypertension, counseling, compliance, PROLANIS, Puskesmas Kedawung II
