Abstract

Escherichia coli is a bacteria that can turn into a pathogen if the growth in the body beyond normal limits. Escherichia coli is found in the human colon as normal flora. Antibiotics are commonly used as a treatment is kotrimoksazol.Tujuan of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of a combination of ethyl acetate fraction of the ethanol extract of rosella flower petals and cotrimoxazole against Escherichia coli ATCC 25 922. This study uses a maceration using 70% ethanol and then fractionated with ethyl acetate. The concentration of ethyl acetate fraction of ethanol extract of rosella flower petals cotrimoxazole 12.5% and 0.038%. Comparison of a combination of ethyl acetate fraction of ethanol extract of rosella flower petals and cotrimoxazole is 1: 9; 2: 8; 3: 7; 7: 3; 8: 2; and 9: 1. Diffusion disk etched with a combination of ethyl acetate fraction and cotrimoxazole and placed on an agar medium containing the bacteria Escherichia coli. After 24 hours the inhibition zone was measured. Antibacterial activity test with a ratio of a combination of ethyl acetate fraction of ethanol extract of rosella flower petals and cotrimoxazole against Escherichia coli showed the ratio of 1 : 9 had the highest activity .
