Abstract

Turi leaves (Sesbania grandiflora Pers.) contain saponins, tanin and flavonoid. The aim of the experiment was to determine the antifungal activity of 70% ethanol extract, fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water from turi leaves against the growth of Candida albicans ATCC 10231. Turi leaves extracted by maceration with 70% ethanol, then fractionated with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water solvent. After that, tested for its antifungal activity using dilution method with concentrations of 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.12%, 1.56%, 0.78%, 0.39%, 0.19% and 0.095%. And using diffusion method in wells from most active fractions with multiple concentrations. The result of the experiment showed that Minimum Bactericide Concentrations of 70% ethanol extract, fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water was 25%, 12,5%, 6,25% and 25%. The ethyl acetate fraction had the most effective antifungal activity compared with 70% ethanol extract, fraction of nhexane, and water. And diffusion method of ethyl acetate fraction showed that most powerful antifungal potential with average diameter of inhibition zone was 17.67 mm at concentration of 6.25%, compared with 13 mm at a concentration of 4.68% and not there is a potential antifungal for not showing inhibition zone at a concentration of 3.12%.
