Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women in the world. Chemotheraphy treats cancer effectively. But, it often causes side effects and great economic burden. Cytotoxic agent with low side effect and cheap is needed to solve this problem. Muntingia calabura leaves contains of several chemical compounds that have been known for their cytotoxic activity such as flavonoid, tannin, saponin, and steroid. Etanolic extract and fractions of Muntingia calabura leaves were tested in 7 concentrations (1000 µg/mL, 500 µg/mL, 250 µg/mL, 125 µg/mL, 62,5 µg/mL, 31,25 µg/mL, dan 15,6 µg/mL) on T47D cell line by following MTT assay test procedure. Cytotoxic activity indicates that n-hexane fraction exhibited the most significant activity amongst treatment groups with IC50 value of 47,315 µg/mL. Otherwise, the cytotoxic activity has not shown in etanolic extract, aqueous fraction, and ethyl acetate fraction with IC50 values of 961,612 µg/mL, 554,626 µg/mL, and 346,737 µg/mL, respectively.
