Abstract

White turmeric rizhome (Curcuma zedoaria (Berg.) Roscoe) is a plant that is as lowering fever empirically, while it is as anticancer scientifically. Chemistry contens in this plant is flavonoid and essential oils. This research is aimed to know activities of ethanolic extract of white turmeric rhizome as an antiplasmodium against Plasmodium falciparum and to know IC50 values. The extraction methods that were used by this research is maseration method by 70% ethanol solvent. Antiplasmodium activity test against Plasmodium falciparum is running in vitro with using candle jar method that were developed by Trager and Jensen. Ethanolic extract concentration which were required is 800 µg/ml, 400 µg/ml, 200 µg/ml, 100 µg/ml, 50 µg/ml, 25 µg/ml, 12,5 µg/ml, 6,25 µg/ml, with DMSO negative control. IC50 values were determined by probit analysis of SPSS 18 Program. Summary, the higher concentration has a higher inhibition concentration score. The result showed that ethanolic extract of white turmeric rhizme has a good antiplasmodial activity with 13,013 µg/ml IC50 score.
