Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is a normal flora of the body. Bangle rhizome plants (Zingiber cassumunar R.) and nutmeg seed (Myristica fragrans H.) are used for the treatment of various diseases. Essential oil of bangle rhizome contains sabinene compound, terpinen-4-ol, sesquiterpen, sineol. Essential oil of nutmeg seed contains phenolic and terpenoid compounds that can inhibit bacterial growth. This study aims to determine the essential oil of rhizome bangle and nutmeg or a combination of both which have the most effective activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 259923. The method in this study using diffusion method concentration 50%; 25%; 12.5% with a combination of 1: 1; 1: 2; 2: 1; 1: 3; 3: 1 Data from the stady was processed using statistical analysis Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with the method of two-way the significance of the results obtained from these data. The result of research with diffusion method showed that the essential oil of rhizome bangle and nutmeg seed have antibacterial activity on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Based on the research result it can be concluded that the combination of essential oil of rhizome bangle and nutmeg seed has greater activity than single form which has activity as antibacterial to Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with a ratio of 3: 1 concentration with a resistor diameter of 24.47 ± 0,5033. The content of active compound which has antibacterial activity of the essential oil of rhizome bangle is 4-terpineol (70,96%) and essential oil of nutmeg seed is sabinene (6,62%).
