Abstract

Memory reduction is caused by oxidative stress. Cherry leaf (Muntingia calabura L) has an active compound suspected one of them flavonoids as antioxidants that may be influential in improving memory because it can ward off free radicals. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of dry extract of kersen leaf (Muntingia calabura L) and the effect of dry extracting method of cherry leaves (Muntingia calabura L) dose 390 mg/kg BB mice to improvement of memory. The dried extract is made by using two methods, namely freeze dry method and aerosil addition. Memory test method in this study using Morris Water Maze. Test animals were divided into 6 groups, each group consisted of 5 mice, is control gruop I normal, positive control II, III dry freeze dry extract 46 mg/kg BB mice, IV negative control freeze dry (aquadest), V dry extract (aerosil) 39 mg/kg BB mice, VI negative control aerosil. The mice were randomized during the 5-day exercise stage, after ethanol induced 10% 0,5 ml and after treatment were then observed by latency time. Statistical analysis of latency time data using One Way ANOVA then followed by Tukey Post Hoc test to know the existence of difference between test preparation. The result showed that dry extract of freeze dry method and aerosil addition no significant difference in improve memory with percentage of 60,46% dan 50,51%. Dry extract freeze dry method 46 mg/kg BB has a better effect in improving memory with the percentage of memory improvement of 60,46% almost close to ginkgo biloba which is 65,16%.
